The Pirojpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry has launched a month-long awareness campaign to prevent dengue and raise public awareness about the disease. The programme includes leaflet distribution, clean-up drives and mosquito-control activities.
As part of the campaign, a mosquito-control and cleanliness drive was conducted in various parts of Pirojpur town on Monday (September 28), including shops, fish markets and grocery markets. The drive was led by Pirojpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Gazi Wahiduzzaman Lavlu.
During the campaign, stagnant water, waste and potential mosquito breeding grounds around markets and business establishments were cleaned up.
The organisers also raised awareness among traders and members of the public about dengue prevention. Business owners and pedestrians were urged to remove stagnant water and waste, keep water tanks and flower pots clean, and maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.
Gazi Wahiduzzaman Lavlu said Pirojpur had been declared a dengue hotspot and that the outbreak could not be controlled by any single organisation alone.
“That is why we have launched a month-long programme. Today is the first day of the campaign. We have applied mosquito-control chemicals and conducted clean-up drives in markets and different areas. At the same time, traders have been made aware of dengue prevention,” he said.
He urged residents of Pirojpur municipality not to allow water to accumulate anywhere to prevent mosquito breeding and called on everyone to keep their own surroundings clean.
Senior Vice-President Ahsanul Kabir, Vice-President Mehedi Hasan and other leaders of the organisation were also present during the campaign.
