Mazharul Islam Badal, Thakurgaon District Correspondent:

Business owners staged a human chain in Ruhea of Thakurgaon to protest the eviction of shops from government land at Ramnath Hat.

The human chain program was organized on Saturday (December 27) in the afternoon at Ramnath Bazaar.

During the demonstration, the traders said that they have been conducting business at Ramnath Bazaar for a long time. However, the Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila LGED has issued notices to evict them in order to construct a two-storied market building on the site. The speakers argued that Ramnath Bazaar is a rural market and that customers would not come to a multi-storied market in such an area.

Drawing the attention of the Deputy Commissioner of Thakurgaon, the business owners said, “Please save us. We are small traders and have been running our families through these small businesses for years.” They further stated that they were verbally informed to remove their shops within just two to three days, a decision they strongly protested against.

Speakers at the human chain included businessman Ruhul Amin, pharmacy owner Suman, grocery shop owner Manik Chandra Sen, Md. Ashraful Haque, Majedul Haque, and retired Assistant Professor Md. Yusuf Ali, among others.
