After days of continuous rainfall across the country, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast more rain for Thursday as well. Meteorologists said rainfall may intensify in Dhaka and several southern districts, especially from the afternoon onward.

Heavy showers were recorded in many parts of the country throughout Wednesday. In the capital, significant rainfall occurred during both daytime and nighttime hours. According to the Met Office, the highest rainfall-121 millimeters-was recorded in Khepupara of Patuakhali, classified as very heavy rainfall. Dhaka recorded 65 millimeters of rain.

Although the sky remained cloudy in the capital since morning, there had been no major rainfall until then. However, meteorologist Md. Tariful Newaz Kabir said the tendency for rain could increase as the day progresses. Alongside coastal regions, Dhaka may also experience rain accompanied by gusty winds.

Earlier, the weather office had issued a 96-hour forecast on Wednesday warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in different regions of the country. In line with that forecast, rain began from Tuesday afternoon and spread further across the country on Wednesday.

The ongoing rainfall has already triggered flood-like conditions in several northeastern districts. Water levels in the Kangsha and Someshwari rivers in Netrokona and the Manu River in Moulvibazar are flowing above danger levels. Waterlogging and flooding have also been reported in low-lying areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Netrokona, and Moulvibazar.

The Meteorological Department said intermittent rainfall may continue in different parts of the country until next Monday.
