Huge Quantity of Indian Illegal Medicinal Cream Seized in Operation at Gowainghat, Sylhet

A large consignment of Indian illegal medicinal cream was seized during a special operation in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet. The seizure was made by the Detective Branch (DB) of Sylhet District Police early Tuesday morning (23 December 2025) at approximately 5:20 AM.

According to police sources, a DB operational team was conducting a drive on the Radhanagar–to–Gowainghat paved road in Chhotokhel area under Gowainghat Sadar Union (No. 12) of Gowainghat Police Station. During the operation, the team signaled a Tata DI pickup van to stop. However, the vehicle ignored the signal and sped towards Chhotokhel village.

The DB officers immediately chased the vehicle. Sensing danger, the driver abandoned the pickup van in a paddy field owned by one Farid Ahmed and others in Chhotokhel area and fled the scene.

Later, in the presence of witnesses, the abandoned Tata DI pickup van was searched. A total of 18,564 (eighteen thousand five hundred sixty-four) packets of Indian illegal medicinal cream labeled “Clobetasol Propionate & Gentamicin Sulphate” were recovered from 17 plastic sacks inside the vehicle.

The seized pickup van along with the illegal medicinal creams has an estimated market value of BDT 24,99,480 (Twenty-four lakh ninety-nine thousand four hundred eighty). All items were seized under a formal seizure list.
