Mohammad Ali Azgar Unable to Return Home Amid Legal Case, Seeks Security Assurance

Mohammad Ali Azgar, a resident of Mymensingh Sadar, is currently staying in London, citing legal complications and concerns over his personal safety if he returns to Bangladesh.

According to local sources, a General Diary (GD) was lodged at Kotwali Model Police Station in Mymensingh on September 4, 2026, allegedly with the intention of initiating a criminal case against Azgar. The GD, numbered 606 with tracking number ENYOHM, reportedly contains an allegation of an “attempt to murder” against him.

Police at Kotwali Model Police Station have reportedly taken the matter into consideration. The dispute is said to have originated from a long-standing conflict over land ownership and access to a road.

Contacted for his comments, complainant Md Saidur Rahman Sayed said the dispute with Azgar has continued for a long time over land ownership involving inheritance and registered sale deeds, as well as access to a road.

He alleged that Azgar left for London without resolving the disputes and claimed that he had made several attempts to harm him in the past, leaving his family concerned about their safety.

“I was compelled to seek legal protection in accordance with the law. That is why I lodged the GD at Kotwali Model Police Station with the intention of pursuing legal action over the alleged attempt to murder,” Saidur Rahman sayed.

However, Azgar rejected the allegations, describing them as “completely false and motivated.”

Speaking over the phone, Azgar alleged that Saidur Rahman and his uncle Shirajul Islam were attempting to forcibly occupy land belonging to his nephew, Moniruzzaman, and use it for their own benefit.

He further alleged that Saidur Rahman, allegedly with the support of his brothers, had also occupied his ancestral homestead.

According to Azgar, his nephew Moniruzzaman filed a written complaint against Shirajul Islam at Mymensingh Sadar Police Station on June 25, 2026, over the land dispute.

Azgar claimed that after the complaint was filed, police officials, including Sub-Inspector Mahbub, asked Shirajul Islam on several occasions to produce valid documents proving his ownership of the disputed land. He alleged that Shirajul Islam avoided producing the documents each time.

“Having failed to gain an advantage through the land dispute, Saidur and his associates are now trying to put me into legal trouble through false allegations. I have also been receiving death threats,” Azgar alleged.

He said these circumstances had made returning to Bangladesh risky for him.

“I fear that I may be killed if I return to Bangladesh. I have serious concerns about my safety because of Shirajul Islam and Saidur’s group,” he said.

Azgar also claimed that his family had been involved in land-related disputes for many years and that he had lost around 15 relatives over the years. He alleged that some of his relatives had been killed by other members of the family in connection with land disputes.

“I have tried from many many years to resolve these problems, but failed. Eventually, I was forced to leave the country to protect my life. Unless the overall situation is resolved through lawful means, I fear that I could be killed if I return to Bangladesh,” Azgar said.

Azgar’s side said he is willing to cooperate fully with the legal proceedings in Bangladesh. At the same time, he is seeking an opportunity to maintain his lawful stay abroad until adequate arrangements are made to ensure his personal safety.
