Dhaka District Police Superintendent's Operation to Free Illegal Footpaths in Kadamtali, Keraniganj

To free the illegal footpaths in the busy commercial area of Kadamtali, known as the gateway to Dhaka, the Dhaka District Police Superintendent has conducted an eviction operation.

Sunday (14 September) from the afternoon, this operation was carried out on the footpaths on both sides of the main road near the Kadamtali bus stand and Babubazar bridge.

The operation was led by Shamima Parveen, who has taken charge as the first female police superintendent in the history of Dhaka District.

According to police and local sources, for a long time, a dishonest group had occupied the footpaths and was illegally running tea stalls, floating hawker markets, construction materials, and various goods. This was causing severe inconvenience to pedestrians and intense traffic congestion. Due to the extreme public suffering, the police launched this operation.

During the operation, the police evicted nearly a hundred illegal structures that had been set up on both sides of the footpath and cleared the footpaths, seizing illegally stored goods. At this time, the illegal occupiers were warned.

Regarding this, Dhaka District Police Superintendent Shamima Parveen told Inquilab, "Footpaths are for public movement. No illegal business will be allowed to operate by occupying the footpaths. The police will take all necessary legal measures to ensure the public can move freely and to restore order on the roads. Such operations will continue to alleviate public suffering."

During the operation, senior officials from Dhaka District DB (South), Keraniganj Model Police Station, South Keraniganj Police Station, and Traffic Police were present.

Meanwhile, local businessmen and pedestrians have welcomed this initiative by the police. They have demanded that this operation be continued regularly.
