
World Teachers’ Day 2026 was observed in Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur with a discussion meeting and a colourful rally on Monday (October 5).
The event, organised by the Bhandaria Upazila Administration, began at 10am at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Hasibul Hasan chaired the discussion.
Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Jahangir Hossain addressed the event as a special guest.
Among others, speakers included Bhandaria Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Ratneshwar Kumar Mondal, Upazila BNP General Secretary Md Monir Hossain Akon, Pourashava BNP Convener Abdul Mannan Hawladar, Upazila BNP Organising Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Molad Jamaddar, social worker Zulfikar Ali Haider, Principal Abdullah Mahmud Talukdar, Md Abdur Rahim, Mofazzal Hossain, Khan Md Ilias Hossain, Headteacher Md Moniruzzaman, Headteacher Mitul Chandra Bepari, Acting Headteacher Monir Hossain, Headteacher Syed Habibur Rahman Raja, Assistant Professor Monowar Hossain Palash and Assistant Teacher Badal Hossain.
At the discussion, speakers put forward various demands for improving the overall quality of the education system and ensuring better living standards for teachers.
They said the severe disparity in salaries, allowances and other benefits between teachers at government and private educational institutions was discouraging the teaching community. Despite having similar qualifications and putting in equal effort, teachers at private institutions were being deprived of their legitimate rights, they said.
The speakers strongly urged the government to immediately eliminate the disparity and called for fundamental reforms in the education system to ensure quality education. They also demanded the swift nationalisation of the entire private education system.
Following the discussion, a colourful rally was brought out. The procession marched through the main streets of the town before ending at the Upazila Parishad premises.
Teachers from various local educational institutions participated in the rally.
