In Keraniganj, the responsibility of an abandoned newborn was taken by the UNO

In Dhaka's Keraniganj, a newborn girl found abandoned in a plastic bag on the side of the road has been taken under the care of the upazila executive officer (UNO), including her medical treatment and overall responsibility. The upazila administration has also initiated the necessary legal process under the Child Welfare Act to ensure the child's safe future.
According to the upazila administration and local sources, residents heard the sound of the child's crying from a bush beside a road in Keraniganj in the morning. They later went there and found the newborn abandoned in a plastic bag. The child was quickly rescued, and the matter was reported to the local police and upazila administration.
Upon receiving the news, the UNO of Keraniganj immediately ordered the child to be admitted to the local health complex and made arrangements for necessary medical treatment. After close observation and primary treatment by doctors at the hospital, it has been reported that the child is now out of danger and healthy.
The upazila executive officer stated that all arrangements for the treatment of the rescued newborn have been made by the administration. The child's name has also been determined by the administration. Her future security will be ensured following the provisions of the existing law and policies of the Child Welfare Act. After the necessary legal processes, arrangements will be made to transfer the child to a responsible and suitable family.
Meanwhile, after the news of the abandoned newborn rescue spread, locals flocked to the hospital to get a glimpse of the child. Many have expressed interest in adopting her. The residents have praised the efforts of the upazila executive officer and local administration for taking responsibility for the treatment and security of the helpless newborn.
Police have stated that the matter of the newborn's security is being treated with the utmost importance. At the same time, investigations are ongoing to identify the child's biological parents and to find those involved in the incident.
