The BRTA Dhaka Metro-4 Circle has organised a road safety awareness workshop at Bashundhara Public School and College to educate students about road safety and responsible road use as part of the month-long programme marking National Safe Roads Day 2026.
The workshop was held under the theme, “Safe Roads, a Prosperous Country—Bangladesh First.”
Participants received guidance on safe road crossing, the proper use of footpaths and zebra crossings, responsibilities as public transport passengers, and the duties of drivers and pedestrians.
The speakers stressed that reducing road accidents requires responsible behaviour not only from drivers but also from pedestrians and passengers. They highlighted the importance of obeying traffic laws and practising caution and responsibility on the roads.
The discussion also covered safe road design and management, enforcement of traffic laws, and ways to reduce accidents through greater awareness and mutual respect among road users.
The speakers noted that road safety is not merely a matter of infrastructure or law enforcement; it is a shared responsibility that requires awareness and responsible conduct from everyone. They emphasised the importance of spreading this understanding through students, who will become the responsible citizens of tomorrow.
They expressed hope that improving students’ knowledge, awareness and sense of responsibility would help prevent accidents. They also stressed that families, educational institutions, the administration, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders must work together to ensure safer roads.
Students shared their own views on road safety during the workshop. The BRTA also distributed awareness leaflets and screened educational videos.
Speakers included Partha Sarathi Das, transport analyst and executive director of Road Safety Alliance Bangladesh, who discussed safe road use and awareness; Md. Kamal Uddin, police inspector at the Gulshan Traffic Division, who explained traffic signs and signals; Tanmoy Kumar Dhar, assistant director (engineering) at the BRTA Dhaka Metro-4 Circle, who discussed the importance of road safety and the causes and prevention of road accidents; and Professor Md. Jahangir Alam, acting principal of Bashundhara Public School and College.
