He was recovered from a house in Kathalia area under Narsingdi Sadar Upazila at around 9:00 pm on October 18 in a joint operation conducted by RAB-11 and Chitalmari Police.
After the rescue, Pritom was taken to the RAB-11 office in Narsingdi and was subsequently handed over to his family through the police. His safe return has brought immense relief to his family, who had been living in anxiety since his disappearance.
The family has expressed heartfelt gratitude to RAB-11, Chitalmari Police, the Bagerhat district administration, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), and journalists from national and local media outlets who helped publicise the incident.
Pritom is a ninth-grade student at Chitalmari Government S. M. Model High School. His father, Prince Mondal Olif, works as the Bagerhat district correspondent for Daily Bangladesh Samachar, Daily Bangladesh Diary, Kal Prokash Online and BD Mail 24 Online.
According to the family, Pritom left home at around 4:00 pm on October 15 to attend private tutoring but did not return. After searching several possible locations and contacting relatives and acquaintances without success, his father filed a General Diary (GD No. 832) with Chitalmari Police Station.
The disappearance caused deep concern among family members. His relatives appealed for public assistance, while national and local media outlets widely reported the incident to help locate him.
Joint Operation Leads to Rescue
According to the family, they believe Pritom may have been lured or persuaded to leave home. RAB-11 and Chitalmari Police subsequently coordinated their efforts to locate and rescue the teenager.
The family credited Chitalmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) J. M. Masum for supervising the operation and Sub-Inspector (SI) Shakil for his direction and courageous efforts. Assistant Sub-Inspectors Faizul and Azad also played active roles in the operation, according to the family.
Pritom was rescued from a house in Kathalia, under Narsingdi Sadar Upazila, at around 9:00 pm on October 18. He was first taken to the RAB-11 office in Narsingdi before being handed over to his family through the police.
No one could be detained or arrested in connection with the incident, the family said. The circumstances surrounding Pritom’s disappearance and the possibility of other people’s involvement remain matters requiring further investigation.
Support from Senior Officials
The family also acknowledged the role of the Bagerhat Superintendent of Police, the PBI Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Bagerhat. According to the family, they maintained communication with Chitalmari Police and provided advice and coordination during the rescue efforts.
The family believes that the combined efforts of law enforcement agencies, police officers on the ground and senior officials helped facilitate Pritom’s safe return.
Family Thanks Media for Publicising the Disappearance
Journalists from national and local media outlets also played a significant role by voluntarily reporting Pritom’s disappearance. The family said the widespread coverage helped bring public attention to the case and strengthened collective efforts to find him.
Prince Mondal Olif and his family have expressed their sincere gratitude, prayers and love to RAB-11, Chitalmari Police, Bagerhat District Police, the PBI, the district administration and all journalists who helped publicise the incident.
The family said they would always remember those who stood by them during the difficult period, checked on their wellbeing, shared the news and offered assistance in finding their son.
Pritom’s safe return has brought relief to the family after days of uncertainty. However, the circumstances in which he was taken to Narsingdi and whether anyone else was involved remain issues that require clarification through investigation.
