Further details have emerged about the final night of former Air Force officer K. M. Tahsif Sauri, whose death is under investigation. According to statements by his friend Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep, who was with him that night, Tahsif went to a field in Tongi after drinking at a bar in Uttara and having a dispute with his girlfriend. Reports citing investigation sources said Deep also told investigators that Tahsif searched for and consumed heroin at the field.
However, it has not yet been established how Tahsif fell into the water and died. An investigation is underway to determine the actual cause of his death.
According to statements given to investigators, Tahsif, Disha and Deep entered Nest Bar in Sector 18 of Uttara at around 10:18pm on October 27.
According to Deep, Tahsif had learned a few days earlier about Disha's alleged drug use and close relationship with another young man. Tahsif was upset about the matter, prompting him to take Disha to the bar that night.
At the bar, Tahsif asked the management to play melancholic music. All three subsequently consumed alcohol. Deep told investigators that Tahsif and Disha argued over the issue while they were there, remaining at the bar until midnight.
At one point, Tahsif also spoke about consuming heroin, according to Deep's statement.
According to information provided by Deep, the three left the bar around midnight. Tahsif then rode his motorcycle to drop Disha off at her home in Sector 18 of Uttara. Deep also travelled there on his own motorcycle.
A report citing an investigation official said Tahsif and Disha had been in a relationship for about a year. An analysis of their mobile phones had yielded various pieces of information, the official said, adding that they frequently visited different bars and restaurants.
After dropping Disha off, Tahsif and Deep headed towards a field near a slum in Tongi Bazar. Deep claimed that Tahsif himself had decided to go there.
According to Deep's statement, they left their motorcycles near the slum beside the field and walked towards it. Many people were present there, including local drug users and dealers.
Deep told investigators that Tahsif searched for heroin after arriving at the field. He later obtained drugs from several dealers and consumed them.
According to Deep, Tahsif had largely lost control of himself after drinking alcohol at the bar and subsequently taking drugs at the field.
During questioning, Deep said a police patrol team arrived while Tahsif was taking drugs at the field. When people noticed the police, they scattered. Deep also ran towards the riverbank and hid behind Pillar No. 29, according to his statement.
Deep said he believed the police would not find him if he remained hidden there. During this time, he became separated from Tahsif.
According to Deep, two police officers surrounded him two to three minutes later. When they asked for his name, identity and address, he identified himself and said he lived in Mohammadpur.
The officers questioned why he had come there so late at night if he lived in Mohammadpur. Deep replied that he was a friend of Captain Tahsif and had come there for some work.
The officers then told him to return home. However, Deep told investigators that instead of leaving with them, he entered the slum through a narrow road.
Investigation Ongoing
Although Deep's account provides details of several events from Tahsif's final night, no conclusive information has yet been made public establishing how he died. The findings of the ongoing investigation will be crucial in determining the cause of death.
