The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has conducted a special awareness campaign at industrial establishments, mills, factories and goods transport company depots near International Islamic University in Sitakunda, Chattogram, to bring discipline to vehicle movement and parking. During the drive, a total of Tk 55,000 in fines was collected in 15 cases involving violations of the Road Transport Act, operation of vehicles without required documents, reckless driving and indiscriminate parking.
The campaign continued for six and a half hours, from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm on Wednesday (November 4, 2026).
The special awareness campaign and mobile court operation were conducted under the guidance of the Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and the Director of BRTA's Chattogram Divisional Office, with overall cooperation from the Sitakunda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).
The operation was led by Executive Magistrate Dipak Tripura of Mobile Court-11 of the BRTA Chattogram Divisional Office. Also present were S M Helal Uddin, assistant land officer at the Bhatiari Union Land Office; Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Aminuzzaman of Bar Aulia Highway Police Station; SI Md. Mujib of Sitakunda Model Police Station; and other BRTA officials and employees.
As part of the awareness campaign, officials visited Total Gas Company, KDS and other nearby industrial establishments, mills, factories and goods transport company depots near International Islamic University. They spoke with officials, employees, drivers and other responsible personnel about vehicle maintenance, parking in designated areas, safe entry onto and exit from roads, and compliance with traffic laws.
Those concerned were specifically warned to ensure that heavy goods vehicles leaving industrial facilities do not cause traffic congestion or obstruct the movement of the general public. Emphasis was also placed on keeping valid vehicle documents, maintaining roadworthiness and ensuring responsible behaviour by drivers.
Alongside the awareness campaign, a mobile court operation was conducted under the Road Transport Act, 2018. Fifteen cases were filed on the spot for operating vehicles without route permits, fitness certificates and tax tokens, reckless driving, and indiscriminate or disorderly parking. A total of Tk 55,000 was collected in fines.
The drivers of the penalised vehicles and their owners were also contacted by mobile phone and warned to comply with the law. They were instructed to refrain from such violations in the future and make the necessary changes to their vehicle operations.
Those concerned believe that a large number of vehicles travel through the area near International Islamic University every day because of the presence of industrial establishments and goods transport company depots. In particular, uncontrolled movement of heavy and goods-carrying vehicles, unplanned parking and operating vehicles without the necessary documents can increase the risk of road accidents and traffic congestion.
For this reason, the campaign aims not only to impose fines and enforce the law but also to raise awareness of traffic regulations among vehicle owners, drivers and officials responsible for industrial establishments.
Emphasis has been placed on continuing such awareness campaigns and law-enforcement drives to improve road safety, maintain orderly traffic movement and reduce public inconvenience.
Overall, the BRTA initiative is being viewed as an important step towards making vehicle movement safer, more orderly and better regulated in the industrial areas and on key roads of Sitakunda.
