The adjourned session of the Jatiya Sangsad
is set to resume Sunday at 3:00 PM. The sitting will be chaired by
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and will include discussions on the motion of thanks
on the President’s address, with participation from both treasury and
opposition members.
The session is expected to be politically
charged, particularly over the implementation of the “July National Charter
(constitutional reform)” and the “Referendum Ordinance-2025.” Opposition
parties, including their alliance partners, have already submitted multiple
notices demanding detailed discussions on these issues.
Today’s agenda also includes a
question-and-answer session involving several key ministries and offices, such
as Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Youth and Sports, the
Prime Minister’s Office, the Election Commission, and the Office of the
President. Matters of urgent public importance under procedural rules will also
be taken up.
The current session is scheduled to continue
until April 30. Earlier, the first session of the 13th Parliament began on
March 12, during which the Speaker and Deputy Speaker were elected. A special
committee was also formed to review 133 ordinances issued during the tenure of
the interim government. Most of these ordinances have reportedly seen consensus
between the সরকার and opposition, while discussions on the remaining
ones are ongoing.
According to constitutional provisions, any
ordinance must be approved within a stipulated timeframe, failing which it will
lapse. Therefore, there is increased urgency to pass the pending ordinances
within the deadline.
Meanwhile, a human chain program has been announced in front of the parliament complex by a civic platform demanding implementation of the referendum results. The demonstration is scheduled to take place at Manik Mia Avenue at noon, with participation expected from groups, activists, and members of the public.
