Chitalmari Upazila team became champions in the district-level “Notun
Kuri Sports” Under-14 cricket tournament, organized to develop the talents of
children and teenagers in Bagerhat. With this victory, the team has qualified
to participate in the Khulna divisional round scheduled to be held on May 19.
The thrilling final match was held on Monday (May 11) at the Bagerhat
District Stadium. Batting first, Chitalmari scored 77 runs for the loss of 5
wickets in the allotted 10 overs. In reply, Morelganj Upazila team managed to
score 76 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 10 overs, losing the match by just 1
run.
Chitalmari’s young players showed excellent teamwork, disciplined
bowling, and strong fielding throughout the match. Due to his outstanding
performance, Ali Mahamud Nobel of Chitalmari was selected as the best player of
the final.
After the match, Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdul Baten handed over
the championship trophy to the winning team and congratulated the players for
their success.
Former player and sports teacher of Chitalmari, Md. Jahangir Hossain
Bindu, and sports organizer Md. Saidur Rahman Selim Khan said that the
achievement was the result of regular practice and dedication of the young
cricketers.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday (May 12), the Chitalmari Upazila Administration
arranged a reception program for the champion team at the office of the Upazila
Nirbahi Officer (UNO). The players were welcomed with tuberose flowers and
sweets in recognition of their success.
Speaking at the event, UNO Khadija Akter encouraged the players to
prepare themselves better for the upcoming divisional competition. She said,
“This time you played for Chitalmari Upazila, and next you will represent the
whole Bagerhat district. So, you must continue practicing and improve
yourselves further.”
Among others present at the reception were Upazila Women Affairs Officer
Hafizur Rahman, Acting President of Upazila BNP Ahsan Habib Thanda,
Organizational Secretary Advocate Fazlur Rahman, President of Chitalmari Press
Club Ekramul Haque Munshi, General Secretary Princh Mondal Olif, invited
guests, guardians, and local dignitaries.
