
The deadliest accident took place on the Jashore-Khulna highway. In the Chaulia fuel station area of Jashore Sadar upazila, a speeding covered van lost control and crushed an easy-bike and a van, killing two people on the spot. Two more later died at the hospital. The victims included a mother and her four-year-old son.
The incident sparked intense public anger. Enraged locals blocked the highway and set the covered van on fire, causing traffic movement to remain suspended for a long period.
Meanwhile, in Khoksa of Kushtia, four people were killed after a sand-laden truck collided head-on with a passenger bus. Following the collision, the bus plunged into a water-filled roadside ditch. At least 21 others were injured in the accident, including two students among the deceased.
In Ghoraghat of Dinajpur, three young men riding a motorcycle were killed after being hit by a speeding truck. Local sources said the truck struck the motorcycle forcefully while it was crossing the highway.
In Patiya of Chattogram, two ninth-grade students died in a collision between a bus and a motorcycle. Another person was injured in the incident.
In Dighinala of Khagrachhari, a young man was killed in a collision between an auto-rickshaw and a Mahindra vehicle. On the same day, another person died and four others were injured in separate accidents in Faridpur.
These accidents in a single day have once again raised concerns over the country’s worsening road safety situation. Locals allege that reckless driving, weak enforcement, and widespread violations of traffic laws are contributing to the rising number of deaths on the roads.
