
The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested two suspected smugglers
and seized a large consignment of electronic appliances during an
anti-smuggling operation in Patenga, Chattogram.
According to the Coast Guard, intelligence
reports indicated that a smuggling syndicate was planning to unload electronic
goods from a commercial vessel anchored at Pontoon No. 10 under Patenga Police Station,
with the intention of evading customs duties and distributing the products in
the local market.
Acting on the information, personnel from the
Patenga
Coast Guard Outpost conducted a special operation at around 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
June 17, 2026. During the raid, officers searched a suspicious
truck and recovered electronic goods worth approximately BDT 1,052,800 (10.53 lakh).
The seized items included one refrigerator, one deep
freezer, two washing machines, one portable air conditioner, four full-unit air
conditioners, and one outdoor AC unit.
The Coast Guard also seized the truck used in
the smuggling operation and arrested two individuals allegedly involved
in the illegal activity.
Authorities said legal proceedings against
the detainees are currently underway.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard reiterated its
commitment to continuing anti-smuggling operations across the country to
protect the national economy and prevent illegal trade.
