Belgium advanced to the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals with an emphatic 4-1 victory over host nation the United States in the Round of 16.

Playing in Seattle, Belgium secured a comfortable win thanks to a brace from Charles De Ketelaere, along with goals from Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku.

Before the match, Belgium unsuccessfully appealed to FIFA over the suspension of Folarin Balogun. However, the Belgian defense effectively neutralized the American forward throughout the game.

Belgium took the lead in the ninth minute through De Ketelaere. Although the United States equalized, the Europeans regained their advantage before halftime. In the second half, Belgium capitalized on a goalkeeping error to extend their lead, before Lukaku sealed the 4-1 victory with a goal in stoppage time. Belgium will now face Spain in the quarter-finals.
