A farmer in Ishwarganj, Mymensingh, has claimed the first prize of Tk 3 million in the Bangladesh Protibondhi Kallyan Samity (BPKS) National Lottery 2026 after purchasing a ticket for just Tk 20. However, he has not yet been officially declared the winner as the ticket is still undergoing verification.

Hanif Mia, a resident of Maheshpur village under Sarisha Union, supports his family by working at a pharmacy alongside farming and running a duck farm.

The draw for the BPKS National Lottery 2026 was held on July 19. The first-prize number announced was Ga-0164364, which matches the number printed on Hanif’s ticket, sparking excitement in the local community.

Hanif said he bought two lottery tickets for Tk 20 each while working at a pharmacy in Maheshpur Bazar. Later, while checking the results online, he noticed that one of his tickets matched the first-prize number. To verify the result, he took the original ticket to the BPKS office, where it was initially examined.

“If I receive the prize money, I plan to open my own pharmacy and expand my duck farm,” Hanif said. He added that the unexpected lottery result has given him new hope amid ongoing financial pressures on his family.

His wife, Neela Akter, said she initially scolded Hanif for spending Tk 40 on two lottery tickets. However, after learning that one of the tickets matched the first-prize number, they initially found it difficult to believe. After checking the number several times, they began to believe that the claim could be genuine.

Haji Md Alam Kabir, director of the BPKS National Lottery Project, said Hanif is currently the only person to have contacted the organisation with the original ticket as a claimant for the first prize.

He said the ticket appeared genuine during the preliminary examination, but verification by Bangladesh Bank and other relevant authorities is required before a final decision can be made.

According to him, the verification process may begin after the 20th of this month. If all procedures are completed successfully, the winners are expected to receive their prizes in early September in the presence of representatives from the relevant authorities.
