Princh Mondal Olif, Bagerhat District Correspondent:
BNP and its affiliated
organisations staged a broom and shoe procession in Chitalmari of Bagerhat on
Sunday, alleging irregularities in the results of a recruitment test for data
collectors and supervisors tasked with collecting information for the Family
Card database.
The procession started from the
Chitalmari Upazila Parishad premises and paraded through several roads before
holding a protest rally.
Addressing the rally, speakers
alleged irregularities in the publication of the recruitment test results. They
demanded the removal and dismissal of Chitalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO)
Khadija Akter and Ranjan Biswas, a senior official of the Department of Social
Services.
The protesters declared that
their “one-point, one-demand” would continue until the authorities accept their
demands. They also warned that they would take to the streets and, if
necessary, block roads as part of their movement.
Meanwhile, tension was reported
at the Chitalmari Upazila premises amid the protest. Several government offices
in the area were found closed or locked. Additional police personnel were
deployed at the upazila premises to maintain law and order.
The concerned authorities could
not immediately be reached for their comments regarding the allegations of
irregularities in the recruitment test results.
