Rally and Discussion Held in Chitalmari to Mark National Fisheries Week

A colorful rally and discussion meeting were held in Chitalmari of Bagerhat on Sunday (August 16) to mark National Fisheries Week 2026. The programme was organized by the Chitalmari Upazila Administration and the Upazila Fisheries Office under the theme, “Build the Country through Fish Farming, Make Bangladesh Prosperous.”

The programme began in the morning with a colorful rally accompanied by musical instruments from the Upazila Parishad premises. The rally passed through several important roads of the upazila and was attended by fish farmers, fishermen, political leaders, journalists, government officials and people from different professions.

Later, a discussion meeting was held at the Upazila Parishad premises. Chitalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khadija Akter attended the meeting as the chief guest, while Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Ferdous Ansari presided over it.

Fish farming entrepreneur and consultant Shankar Patra, fish farmer and consultant Gouranga Mondal, fish feed seller Sakib Sheikh, and successful fish farmer Mohiuddin Molla spoke at the meeting.

The speakers said that the fisheries sector plays an important role in meeting the country's demand for animal protein, creating employment and contributing to economic development. They emphasized the need for modern and planned fish farming, the use of quality feed, prevention of fish diseases and compliance with technical advice from the fisheries authorities.

They also called for proper management of fisheries resources, conservation of native fish species, expansion of modern fish farming technologies and joint efforts to improve the livelihoods of fishermen and fish farmers.

Among others, BNP Chitalmari Upazila unit organizing secretary Advocate Fazlul Haque, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Chitalmari Upazila unit Ameer Maulana Muniruzzaman Gazi, Jatiyatabadi Matsyajibi Dal Chitalmari Upazila unit organizing secretary Raju Molla, Chitalmari Press Club President Ekramul Haque Munshi, Chitalmari Upazila Press Club President Selim Sultan Sagar, Upazila Chhatra Dal convener Md. Limon Biswas Yunus, joint convener Humayun Sheikh, and NCP Chitalmari Upazila unit President Juel Fakir were present.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Chitalmari Model Police Station Milon Kumar Ghosh, Upazila Agriculture Officer Siamat Al Mamun, and other officials concerned were also present at the programme.
