Senior Reporter Brahmanbaria: Minhaj Nobi Khan Polash
An attempt is underway to occupy the land of Ramkanai Temple in Paschim Paikpara area of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila. Allegations have been raised that for the past few days, Mostak Ahmad, Imtiaz and their associates have been threatening Sumon Chandra Das, the secretary of the temple, in various ways in order to take control of the temple property.
It has been learnt that there is a hotel and a temple on the land standing in the name of Ramkanai Temple. Sumon Chandra Das has been looking after the land and the hotel for a long time as the secretary of the temple. However, on the morning of 11 August, the accused went to the hotel, told the tenant Ruhul Amin Selim to leave the hotel, and pressured Sumon Chandra Das to vacate the place.
A civil case regarding this matter has been ongoing in court since 2018. Recently, an injunction case is also pending in court. Despite the legal process being underway, the accused are allegedly attempting to forcibly occupy the land without paying any heed to the law.
Sumon Chandra Das alleged that the accused have threatened him and the tenant Ruhul Amin Selim with death. They said that if the hotel is not vacated within a few days, an attack will be carried out on them.
In connection with this incident, Sumon Chandra Das filed a General Diary (GD) at Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station on Monday (17 August). Duty Officer Ayesha Akter received the GD. The matter has been forwarded to the Officer-in-Charge of the police station for taking necessary legal measures.
