Biman Bangladesh Airlines has signed an agreement with US aircraft manufacturer Boeing to purchase 11 more aircraft on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
With the latest agreement, Biman’s total orders from Boeing in 2026 have reached 25 aircraft.
The agreement was signed in New York on Wednesday (September 23) by Brad McMullen, Boeing’s senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, and Rumi A. Hossain, chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Under the agreement, Biman will purchase five Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners and six Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
Bangladesh Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, and other officials from Bangladesh and the United States attended the signing ceremony.
Biman Chairman Rumi A. Hossain said the new order is an important part of the airline’s plan to expand its fleet and international network.
He said the initiative aims to strengthen Biman’s capacity on international routes, taking into account the connectivity needs of Bangladeshi citizens, expatriates, businesses and the tourism sector.
Brad McMullen of Boeing said the new aircraft would help expand Biman’s fleet and operational capabilities while improving fuel efficiency, versatility and reliability.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines currently operates Boeing 787, 777 and 737 Next Generation aircraft on various international routes. Through these aircraft, the national flag carrier connects Bangladesh with destinations across the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and Europe.
Earlier in April 2026, Biman signed an agreement with Boeing to purchase 14 aircraft. The order comprised eight 787-10s, two 787-9 Dreamliners and four 737-8 MAX aircraft.
With the latest order of 11 aircraft, Biman’s total Boeing orders in 2026 have now reached 25 aircraft.
