Nahida Sultana Brishti, a Bangladeshi student who had gone missing in the U.S. state of Florida, is no longer alive, her brother Zahid Hasan Pranto said in a social media post. However, police have not yet recovered her body.

The development comes a day after local authorities in Florida recovered the mutilated body of another Bangladeshi PhD student, Jamil Ahmed Limon (27). In connection with that case, police arrested his 26-year-old roommate, Hisham Abugharbiah, a former student of the University of South Florida.

Brishti’s brother shared the news of her death in a Facebook post on Saturday morning, writing, “My sister is no more. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.”

According to a report by BBC Bangla, Zahid Hasan said police have not yet found the body, but based on the amount of blood discovered in the suspect’s apartment, investigators are convinced of her death. Authorities have also informed the family and are continuing search operations to recover the remains.

He further said that U.S. police contacted the family early morning, confirming that Brishti has not yet been recovered. The suspect reportedly admitted that there were two victims and was in the process of disposing of another body.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, while efforts to locate Brishti’s remains are ongoing.
