The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and the Mongla Port Authority have held a high-level meeting to explore ways to increase the use of Mongla Port for the export of knitwear products.
The meeting was held at the BKMEA office in Dhaka on September 21, 2026, with discussions focusing on the potential for exporting ready-made garments through Mongla Port, improving logistics support and addressing operational issues faced by exporters.
A high-level delegation from Mongla Port Authority, led by its Chairman Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mostafa, visited the BKMEA office and held discussions with BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem and other senior representatives of the organisation.
During the meeting, the port authorities assured the apparel sector of necessary logistical support if exporters increasingly use Mongla Port as an alternative route for transporting their products. Particular emphasis was placed on cargo handling, storage, shipment and reducing unnecessary operational delays.
Representatives of the port's Harbour and Marine Department, the Traffic Director and the Deputy Traffic Manager, among others, attended the meeting. BKMEA representatives also placed several proposals concerning port facilities and the practical requirements of exporters.
The participants discussed the possibility of making Mongla Port a more effective route for knitwear exports. Increased use of the port could provide exporters with an additional maritime route while helping diversify the country's logistics network.
Both sides expressed interest in strengthening cooperation and facilitating greater use of Mongla Port for the country's knitwear export activities.
