The Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) celebrated World Egg Day 2026 with a series of colourful and informative activities organized by its Poultry Research Centre.

At 9:30 AM, BLRI organized a colourful rally to mark the occasion. Scientists, officers, and employees from all levels of the institute participated in the rally. It started from the premises of the Poultry Research Centre and proceeded along various internal roads of BLRI. Following the rally, eggs were distributed among pedestrians near the gate adjacent to the Poultry Research Centre.

At 10:00 AM, a seminar and discussion session marking World Egg Day was held in the conference room on the fourth floor of BLRI. The programme was attended by Mr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Director of the Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm, Savar, under the Department of Livestock Services, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Md. Sazedul Karim Sarker, Principal Scientific Officer ( Poultry Nutrition) Poultry Research Centre, chaired the session.

The seminar and discussion programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran. At the outset, Dr. Halima Khatun, Principal Scientific Officer of the Poultry Research Centre, delivered the welcome address to the invited guests.

Subsequently, Dr. Md. Sazedul Karim Sarker presented the keynote paper titled “Egg Production and Consumption Scenario in Bangladesh, Asia and Globally: The Way Forward.” In his presentation, he discussed the history, significance, and importance of World Egg Day; the nutritional benefits and importance of egg consumption; and the past and present status of Bangladesh’s poultry industry and egg production.

Following the keynote presentation, an expert discussion session was held. The discussion featured Dr. Kamrunnahar Monira, Principal Scientific Officer of the Poultry Research Centre, and Dr. Md. Rakibul Hasan, Principal Scientific Officer of the Dairy Research and Training Centre.

An open discussion session followed the expert panel. The participants emphasized the importance of increasing egg production and called for stronger research initiatives to promote the development of value-added egg products and greater product diversification.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Mr. Md. Shahidul Islam, stated that World Egg Day was introduced to raise public awareness about the nutritional value of eggs. He emphasized that, in the current era of social media, digital platforms should be effectively used to educate people about the nutritional benefits of eggs and the importance of regular egg consumption. He further noted that if BLRI scientists and researchers used social media to disseminate their research findings, people in rural and remote communities would be able to access research-based information more quickly.

Following the Chief Guest’s address, Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rashid, Principal Scientific Officer of the institute and Station In-Charge of the BLRI Regional station , Rajshahi, expressed his gratitude to the invited guests and the organizers for their participation and contributions to the programme.

The International Egg Commission (IEC), an international organization, first organized World Egg Day in Vienna, Austria, in 1996 to raise public awareness of the nutritional value and importance of eggs. Since then, the day has been observed annually on the second Friday of October. Like many other countries worldwide, Bangladesh—and specifically the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute—continues to observe this important occasion.

The theme for this year’s World Egg Day is “ Protein that Powers and Protects “.
