A nearly 9-foot-long python was rescued from a paddy field in Sharanakhola of Bagerhat and later released into a protected forest area of the Sundarbans.
The incident took place on Thursday (August 27) in Ward No. 2 of Southkhali Union under Sharanakhola upazila. The rescued python weighed approximately 8 kilograms.
According to local residents, a farmer spotted the large snake while working in a paddy field in the morning. The news quickly spread through the area, creating concern among local people.
After receiving the information, representatives of Sharanakhola VTRT, a volunteer organisation working for environmental and wildlife protection, including Nahid Hasan and Md Hasan Munshi, reached the spot.
With the cooperation of officials and employees of the Forest Department, the python was safely rescued without causing any injury to the animal.
Later in the afternoon, the snake was released into a protected deep-forest area of the Sundarbans adjacent to the Sharanakhola Range Office.
Local residents expressed relief after the python was safely removed from the populated area and returned to its natural habitat. Wildlife enthusiasts also praised the Forest Department and VTRT team for their prompt response.
Wildlife conservationists say that people should avoid harming or killing wild animals when they enter populated areas. Instead, the relevant Forest Department authorities or trained wildlife rescue teams should be informed so that the animals can be safely rescued and returned to suitable natural habitats.
