In a significant development in the sensational murder case of college student Amir Hamza, Chitalmari Police have arrested another accused listed in the case FIR. After nearly three months of investigation and intelligence-based operations, police apprehended Md. Sohel Pradhan, alias “Body Sohel” (26), the sixth accused in the case.
According to police sources, Sohel Pradhan was arrested on June 20, 2026, at approximately 6:15 PM from Rubel Hossain’s tea stall at Noapara Bus Stand under Fakirhat Upazila of Bagerhat district. The arrest was carried out with the assistance of RAB-6, Khulna, under the guidance and supervision of Chitalmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rokeya Khanam.
The arrested accused is the son of Abdur Razzak Pradhan and Parvin Begum and a resident of Holding No. 35, Approach Road, south side of Chanmari Bazar, Khulna Sadar, Khulna Metropolitan Police area.
Police said that Sohel Pradhan is an FIR-named accused in Chitalmari Police Station Case No. 16, GR No. 42, dated March 27, 2026, filed under Sections 302/34 of the Penal Code, 1860.
Background of the Murder
The murder took place on the afternoon of March 26, 2026, in Shibpur village of Chitalmari Upazila. The victim, Amir Hamza (23), was a first-year undergraduate student of Khulna Government Sundarban College and was also employed in Khulna city.
According to the case statement and investigation findings, six helmet-wearing assailants arrived at Hamza’s residence on three motorcycles. Introducing themselves as police officers, they chased him from his home. As Hamza attempted to escape to save his life, the attackers pursued him to the bank of a canal near the Chitra River and shot him in the head before fleeing the scene.
The brutal killing sparked widespread outrage and concern across the region.
Ongoing Efforts to Arrest All Accused
Police officials stated that since the murder, Chitalmari Police have been conducting continuous operations to track down those involved. Earlier, another FIR-listed accused in the same case, known as “Black Bappi,” was arrested from Dhaka with the assistance of RAB.
The arrest of Body Sohel is being considered a major breakthrough in the investigation and is expected to help uncover further details related to the murder.
Role of OC Rokeya Khanam
Local sources and police officials noted that OC Rokeya Khanam has played an active role in coordinating the investigation and ensuring continuous efforts to apprehend the accused. Through close supervision, intelligence gathering, and coordination with different law enforcement agencies, several suspects linked to the case have already been brought under the law.
Police further confirmed that operations are continuing to arrest the remaining accused persons. The investigation remains ongoing, and the arrested accused has been produced before the court.
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased Amir Hamza welcomed the latest arrest but urged authorities to ensure the arrest of all remaining suspects and secure exemplary punishment for everyone involved in the murder. Local residents have also expressed hope that the full truth behind the killing will soon be revealed through the ongoing investigation.
