A team of RAB-6 has arrested a youth named Abdur Rahman (25) for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman in Fokirhat upazila of Bagerhat. He was produced before the Bagerhat District Court on Wednesday morning.
Abdur Rahman, son of Manjal Haque, hails from the Town Nowapara area and works as a truck driver.
RAB-6 detained him from Jessore Sadar on Tuesday night and later handed him over to Fokirhat Model Police Station. He was the lone accused in the case.
According to the case statement, the victim frequently visited her mother, who lives in a rented house in Town–Nowapara. During these visits, she met Abdur Rahman about four to five months ago, and a relationship developed between them.
The complaint states that Rahman took the victim to his residence and raped her multiple times between 5 and 8 November, promising to marry her. When she later insisted on marriage, he left her at Fokirhat bus stand and went into hiding after cutting all communication.
The victim filed a rape case (Case No. 6) with Fokirhat Model Police Station on 9 November. Since then, the accused had been on the run.
Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Saiful Islam of Fokirhat Model Police Station confirmed the arrest and said the case is currently under investigation.
