Millions of mourners have gathered at the Grand Mosalla in Tehran for the funeral prayers of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. By Sunday morning, the venue had reached full capacity before the prayers began, prompting authorities to close all entrances to the prayer grounds.
According to Iranian state media, funeral
prayers are also being held for four members of Khamenei's family. Large
numbers of people from across the country have traveled to Tehran to pay their
final respects.
The funeral prayers will be led by Ayatollah
Sheikh Jafar Sobhani. In the days leading up to the funeral, memorial
ceremonies and tribute events were held in cities across Iran.
The funeral in Tehran is being regarded as the largest event of the country's national mourning ceremonies.
