Mohammad Asif Chowdhury, Special Correspondent:
Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, a member of the BNP's National Standing Committee and Member of Parliament for Dhaka-3, has said that the fascists, who have caused incidents in the past, may attempt to create an unstable situation in the country during this year's Durga Puja. For this, everyone must remain alert and united.
On Tuesday (October 6) at 11:30 AM, while speaking as the chief guest at a special law and order meeting organized in anticipation of the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja at the Keraniganj Upazila Parishad auditorium, he made these remarks.
Goyeshwar Chandra Roy stated, "The fascists used to commit certain acts, and the ticket sellers of paradise might create instability in the country during this Durga Puja. Therefore, everyone must be alert and united against them."
He said, "Those who voted for the ticket sellers of paradise in the elections could not go to paradise. During Hasina's time, the police acted in a certain way, but they cannot do that now. Whenever Hasina gave orders, the police would use batons. Now, even if needed, the police are afraid to take batons in hand. Therefore, we all must stand beside the administration to give them courage."
This BNP leader said, "We must preserve the democracy for which millions of people have sacrificed their lives. Many sacrifices and struggles were made by the martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to uphold this democracy. The current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is also striving to uphold democracy. So, we all must stand by the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman."
Speaking as a special guest at the meeting, Advocate Nipon Roy Chowdhury, General Secretary of Dhaka District BNP and a Member of Parliament, said, "Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said, 'Religion is for everyone; the right to security belongs to all.'" Along with the law enforcement agencies, BNP leaders and activists will also stand by the Hindu community during this Durga Puja.
He said that the government is sincerely working to ensure the security of people of all religions in the country. Political leaders and activists must also play a responsible role in celebrating Durga Puja in a peaceful environment, alongside the administration.
The meeting, chaired by Keraniganj Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Umar Faruq, was attended by representatives of SRB-10, members of the Upazila Ansar and VDP, and BNP leader Omar Shahnewaz, among others.
