Law and Order Committee Meeting Held in Jhenaigati, Sherpur

A meeting of the Law and Order Committee was held on Wednesday (24 December) at the Upazila Hall Room in Jhenaigati Upazila of Sherpur district. The meeting was chaired by the local Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Md. Ashraful Alam Russel.

Among those who spoke at the meeting were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Anindita Rani Bhowmik; Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaigati Police Station Md. Nazmul Hasan; Acting Principal of Alhaj Safiuddin Ahmed College Md. Sarwar Alam; Convener of Jhenaigati Upazila BNP Alhaj Shahjahan Akand; Member Secretary Md. Lutfar Rahman; Jamaat Ameer Maulana Nurul Islam; Union Parishad Chairmen Rukunuzzaman and Md. Ataur Rahman; officials from the Forest Department; a BGB representative; Daily Inqilab Staff Reporter S. K. Sattar; Jaijaidin Upazila Correspondent Golam Rabbani Titu; the Headmaster of Ahmad Nagar High School; an Upazila P.P. official; former Commander of the Freedom Fighters’ Council Md. Suruzzaman Akand; and Anti-Corruption Commission Convener Abul Hashem, among others.

During the meeting, Nolkurra Union Parishad Chairman Rukunuzzaman Jaman stated that although Indian drug traffickers are well known to everyone, they are not being arrested.

In his concluding remarks, the President of the Law and Order Committee and UNO Md. Ashraful Alam Russel called upon the BGB and other law enforcement agencies to take a firm stance against drugs. He directed them to stop drug smuggling with a strong hand and to arrest those involved in the drug trade and take legal action against them.

He also urged all concerned to strictly follow the code of conduct in the upcoming parliamentary elections and to take a strong position to ensure that law and order does not deteriorate in any way.
