A mobile court has sentenced two brokers to one month in prison each during an operation at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office in Mirpur-13, Dhaka.

The operation was conducted on Sunday, August 23, by BRTA Executive Magistrate Sajid Anwar as part of an initiative to make the Dhaka Metro-1 Circle office broker-free and prevent harassment of service seekers.

The operation was assisted by BRTA Ansar Commander (PC) Md. Khorshed Alam, APC Al Mizan and other Ansar members. The team caught two brokers red-handed during the drive.

The detainees admitted their offences before Executive Magistrate Sajid Anwar. Following their confessions, the mobile court sentenced both of them to one month of simple imprisonment.

The convicts were identified as:

Kamruzzaman Kakon, 39 — one month’s simple imprisonment

Md. Zahidul Islam, 42 — one month’s simple imprisonment

The convicts were later sent to jail through Kafrul Police Station.

Speaking to Daily Bangladesh Diary and Daily Bangladesh Samachar, Executive Magistrate Sajid Anwar said there had been allegations that brokers and fraudsters were collecting money from BRTA service seekers by promising to complete their work quickly.

“Such drives against brokers and fraudsters are ongoing and will continue in the future,” he said.

BRTA Ansar Commander (PC) Md. Khorshed Alam said Ansar personnel regularly conduct operations against brokers and fraudsters.

“Our operations will continue with the aim of establishing a broker- and fraud-free BRTA office,” he said.
