Bangladesh ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz has
expressed concern over the lack of experience in the field and he would like to see former teammate Mushfiqur
Rahim return to the ODI setup.
According to Miraz, the absence of senior
players like Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur has left a noticeable gap in
leadership and guidance for younger players. He believes experienced cricketer presence is crucial for maintaining team balance.
Miraz feels Mushfiqur is still fit and
capable of playing until the 2027 ODI World Cup. Bringing him back, he says,
could have a positive impact on the squad. He also mentioned discussing the
matter with Aminul Islam Bulbul and receiving encouraging feedback.
At the same time, Miraz expressed interest in
having Shakib Al Hasan back in the team,
though his return remains uncertain under the current circumstances.
In Mushfiqur’s case, there are fewer
obstacles. Although he has retired from ODIs, he continues to play Test
cricket and remains part of the central contract. If the team management
wishes, he could return by reversing his retirement.
However, Miraz’s proposal has not yet been
formally discussed with selectors or the coaching staff. Chief selector Habibul
Bashar said there has been no official conversation on the matter, adding that
Mushfiqur’s own decision will be key.
It is worth noting that Mushfiqur is not
currently part of the team’s plans. Head coach Phil Simmons is focusing on
Litton Kumar Das as the primary wicketkeeper-batter for the future. However,
inconsistent performances have led to changes in the middle order.
Overall, whether Miraz’s wish materializes will depend on the decisions of the board, team management, and the players involved.
