The cold spell continues across the country, with several districts already experiencing cold waves. During the month of January, Bangladesh may face multiple cold waves, and temperatures could drop as low as 4 degrees Celsius.

This information was disclosed in the month-long weather forecast issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Thursday (1 January).

According to the forecast, daytime and nighttime temperatures across the country may remain near normal throughout January. During this period, two to three mild to moderate cold waves may occur, with temperatures ranging from 8–10°C to 6–8°C. In addition, one to two moderate to severe cold waves may take place, with temperatures dropping between 6–8°C and 4–6°C.

The forecast further stated that there is no likelihood of cyclones or low-pressure systems forming in the Bay of Bengal during this month.

It also mentioned that from midnight to morning, moderate to dense fog may develop in river basin areas and in some parts of the country, while light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere. At times, the fog may persist until noon. Due to dense fog, the difference between day and night temperatures may decrease, intensifying the feeling of cold.
