RAB-6 has recovered 33 firearms from three abandoned plastic sacks during an operation in the Sundarbans in Bagerhat’s Sharankhola area.

The weapons were recovered on Tuesday (September 1) from Garail Bagan, adjacent to the bank of the Shaola River in the Harintana area of the Sundarbans. They were handed over to Sharankhola Police Station on Thursday (September 3) afternoon for legal action.

Bagerhat District Police Superintendent Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikapdar confirmed the recovery.

According to RAB-6, its members were conducting a special operation in the area following a tip-off that suspected firearms had been abandoned there. A subsequent search led to the discovery of three plastic sacks containing the weapons.

The recovered firearms include two foreign-made short guns, four locally made pipe guns and old locally manufactured one-shooter guns, among other firearms.

The weapons were found abandoned, and no suspect was arrested during the operation, RAB said.

Authorities are expected to investigate the source of the firearms and determine who brought and concealed them in the remote forest area.

The recovered weapons have been handed over to Sharankhola Police Station for further legal proceedings.
