A mobile court in Chattogram has sentenced a 65-year-old man to 20 days of simple imprisonment for allegedly engaging in brokering activities at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office.

The sentence was handed down during a drive conducted on Tuesday (September 22) at the BRTA Chattogram Metro-2 and Chattogram District Circle offices.

The convicted man, Manzur Alam, 65, is the son of late Kala Mia of the Double Mooring area in Agrabad, Chattogram city.

The mobile court, Mobile Court-11, conducted the operation following allegations of brokering inside the BRTA compound and sentenced him to 20 days of non-rigorous imprisonment.

Meanwhile, in a separate drive in the Chowdhuryhat area under Hathazari Police Station, authorities filed 12 cases for violations of various provisions of the Road Transport Act, 2018. A total of Tk 60,000 in fines was collected in the cases.

Executive Magistrate Dipak Tripura of Mobile Court-11 led the operations.
