: On the occasion of the celebration of 'World Accreditation Day-2026' organized by the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB), a special discussion meeting was held at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium in the capital on Tuesday (June 9).

 

This year's theme was 'Innovation, Trust and Sustainability: The Power of Accreditation'.

 

Hon'ble Minister of Industry, Commerce and Ministry of Textiles and Jute Khandaker Abdul Muktadir was present as the chief guest on the occasion. Chairman of Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) and Secretary of Ministry of Industry presided over the event. Obaidur Rahman.

 

Bangladesh Accreditation Board Director General Mohammad Aminul Islam gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the program. Professor of Civil Engineering Department of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) presented the main article on the theme of the day. Md. Tohid Ur Rahman.

 

Senior officials of the Ministry of Industry, heads of various public and private institutions, experts in the field of standards and accreditation, representatives of trade organizations and participants in the industry and business sector participated in the discussion meeting.

 

Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and BAB Chairman said in the president's speech. Obaidur Rahman said that Bangladesh wants to keep pace with the world by expanding trade and strengthening its position in the international market. Accreditation plays a very important role in this regard. He said, if the quality of a product or service is not guaranteed, it is not possible to create confidence in the market. And one of the most effective means of establishing that trust is accreditation.

 

He also said that Bangladesh Accreditation Board is working to strengthen the country's quality infrastructure by following international standards. Accredited laboratories of the country as a result of gaining international recognition and membership,The capacity and acceptance of inspection and certification bodies has increased worldwide. Through this, the access of domestic goods and services to the international market is becoming easier and new opportunities for export trade are being created.

 

In his welcome speech, Bangladesh Accreditation Board Director General Mohammad Aminul Islam said that this year's theme 'Innovation, Trust and Sustainability: The Power of Accreditation' is very significant in the current global economic reality. In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, ensuring trust in products and services is crucial to meet challenges such as technological transformation, complex global supply systems and climate change. Accreditation acts as a powerful catalyst for building that trust.

 

He said, BAB established under the 'Bangladesh Accreditation Act, 2006' is playing an important role in developing and strengthening the national quality infrastructure. By providing accreditation services according to international standards, the quality of the country's products and services is being ensured, which is increasing the international acceptance and export capacity of the 'Made in Bangladesh' brand.

 

He further said that BAB has already opened new horizons of international accreditation by gaining membership of Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC), International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and International Accreditation Forum (IAF). As a result, the certificates of institutions accredited by BAB are gaining more acceptance in the international market, which is playing an important role in expanding foreign trade and facilitating business.

 

The speakers said that the importance of accreditation is gradually increasing in food safety, health care, quality assurance of industrial products and services, environmental protection, development of agriculture and fisheries sector, information technology and cyber security, consumer protection and sustainable industrialization. The speakers emphasized the importance of accreditation as a matter of national priority to build a safe, inclusive, sustainable and international standard economy.
