The government has appointed administrators in place of chairmen to five Union Parishads in Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur after the terms of the councils expired.
The Union Parishads are Ditabaria, Nadminula-Shialkathi, Teligkhali, Dhaoa and Gauripur.
The appointments were made through a gazette notification issued on Wednesday (September 9), signed by Md. Abdur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of Local Government Division-1 under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
According to the notification, Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Md. Imran Hossain has been appointed administrator of No. 1 Ditabaria Union Parishad; Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Sudeb Sarkar of No. 2 Nadminula-Shialkathi Union Parishad; Assistant Engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering Md. Rustam Ali of No. 3 Teligkhali Union Parishad; Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Nazrul Islam of No. 5 Dhaoa Union Parishad; and Upazila Cooperative Officer Md. Moinul Hasan of No. 7 Gauripur Union Parishad.
The notification states that under Section 18(1) of the Local Government Act, 2024, the appointed administrators cannot remain in office for more than 120 days in a single term from the date of their appointment.
It further states that if an elected council cannot be formed in accordance with the provisions of the law due to any natural disaster, calamity, pandemic or epidemic, government approval must be obtained for any extension of the administrators’ tenure, with the reasons for the extension properly stated.
