U.S. President Donald Trump has announced an
extension of the ongoing ceasefire with Iran, while ordering the continuation
of the naval blockade on Iranian ports.
In a statement posted on social media, Trump
said the decision was made following a request from Pakistan. He noted that
Pakistan’s political and military leadership had urged a temporary pause in
military action against Iran to allow room for diplomatic negotiations.
According to Trump, the appeal came from
Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In
response, Washington agreed to extend the ceasefire period.
However, Trump made it clear that the naval
blockade against Iran will remain in place, and U.S. forces have been
instructed to stay fully prepared for any potential escalation.
The U.S. president also claimed that Iran’s
internal situation has weakened amid the ongoing conflict, describing it as an
expected outcome.
He added that the ceasefire extension will remain in effect until Iran presents a clear proposal and meaningful progress is made in negotiations, keeping the door open for a diplomatic resolution.
