The new executive committee of the Dhaka College English Language Club (DCELC) for the 2026–2027 session has been formed, with Md Arif Mia appointed as President and M K Islam Prodhan Kanon as General Secretary.

The committee was formed with the approval of the Principal of Dhaka College and under the guidance of the club’s Chief Advisor. The new committee aims to promote English language proficiency, communication skills, leadership, creativity and intellectual development among the students of Dhaka College.

Md Akadullah and A.I.M. Nazmus Saadat Ul Alam have been appointed as Vice Presidents, while Md Mahid Hossain and Md Imran Hossain will serve as Assistant General Secretaries. Shahriar Abdullah Oisharjha has been appointed Organizing Secretary, with Shaad Uddin and Md. Hossain as Assistant Organizing Secretaries. Mohammad Rafi will serve as Finance Secretary.

Speaking about his plans, newly appointed President Md Arif Mia said his interest in English grew through regular practice, despite initially lacking confidence in the language. His involvement with the club since 2022 helped him improve his speaking skills, confidence and teamwork.

As President, he wants to make the club more active and student-friendly by arranging regular speaking sessions, vocabulary practice, group discussions, presentations and basic IELTS activities. The club will also focus on English preparation for various competitive examinations. “I want every member to practise English without the fear of making mistakes. Our goal is to create a friendly learning environment where everyone gets the opportunity to improve,” he said.

Newly appointed General Secretary M K Islam Prodhan Kanon said he was weak in English during the early years of his college education, but gradually improved through continuous practice and his involvement with the club. He has been working with DCELC since 2024 and previously served as its Finance Secretary.

He said his priority would be to help students learn English not merely as an academic subject but as a practical means of communication. “We want to create an environment where students can practise English naturally, make mistakes, learn from them and gradually become confident speakers,” Kanon said. Under his plan, the club will arrange regular sessions on speaking, listening, vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and everyday communication. Discussions, presentations, public speaking and group activities will also be organised to strengthen students’ communication skills.

The club also plans to support students preparing for competitive examinations by focusing on grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing. Basic guidance on the four IELTS skills—Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking—will also be provided.

The club’s Chief Advisor is Assoc. Prof. Md. Khairul Alam, while Dhaka College Principal Prof. AKM Elius serves as the institutional head. Former leaders Nazrul Islam, Md Rayhan Islam, Imam Hossain, M M Shamrat, Rafiqul Islam Junayead, Nadir Uzzaman and Sakibul Hasan have been included as Student Advisors.

The new leadership hopes that through regular language practice, interactive activities and collective efforts, the Dhaka College English Language Club will become a more active and effective platform for students in the coming session.
