Patients at Char Fasson Government Hospital in Bhola have been facing prolonged difficulties due to a shortage of modern medical equipment and diagnostic facilities. With essential services unavailable, many local residents are increasingly dependent on private diagnostic centres for necessary tests.
Patients receiving treatment at the hospital’s inpatient and outpatient departments said they often have to go elsewhere for medical examinations because the hospital lacks adequate modern equipment. This has increased their treatment costs, wasted time and added to their overall hardship.
Several local patients said they come to the government hospital expecting affordable treatment, but the need to undergo tests outside often results in additional expenses.
In many cases, patients suffering from complex illnesses have to travel to Barishal or major hospitals in Dhaka for advanced treatment. Low-income and economically disadvantaged families are reportedly bearing the greatest burden.
Members of the local community have called for the prompt installation of modern medical equipment at Char Fasson Government Hospital and improvements in the quality of healthcare services. They said failure to address the shortcomings could further widen disparities in access to healthcare.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer T.S. Ashraful Islam said he took charge on July 22 and has been monitoring the overall situation at the hospital. He said particular attention has been given to cleanliness and maintaining a better environment for patients.
Speaking while providing services on Monday morning, Ashraful Islam said patients were receiving proper care and that hospital authorities were working continuously to ensure quality healthcare for local residents.
Local residents have also urged Bhola-4 MP and Jubo Dal General Secretary Md Nurul Islam Nayan, along with the relevant authorities, to take necessary steps to address the hospital’s shortcomings and improve healthcare services.
