The US military has carried out a limited strike on Iran’s Qeshm Island ahead of the US midterm elections. A US official said the attack was a defensive measure in response to Iran’s use of missiles.
The information was reported by US-based news outlet CNN, citing the official.
According to the report, analysts believe the strike on Qeshm Island was not part of any major military operation. A report by The Wall Street Journal said similar limited strikes had also been conducted secretly in the past.
However, the timing of the attack, just ahead of the US midterm elections, has once again highlighted the unresolved situation surrounding Iran. Analysts believe the possibility of a major confrontation between the two countries remains.
Just hours before the strike, US President Donald Trump had indicated the possibility of a diplomatic solution with Iran. In a social media post, he said the two countries could reach an agreement.
US Vice President JD Vance made a similar statement on Monday (November 2). Speaking to reporters, he said the United States and Iran had made some progress in finding a way to end or resolve the ongoing war.
With military action continuing alongside the possibility of diplomatic negotiations, renewed discussions have emerged over the direction the situation in Iran may take.
