A Krishak Dal leader was killed and a BNP leader was seriously injured in a deadly attack carried out by unidentified assailants in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district on Tuesday night.

The incident took place around 10:00 PM in the Niyotir Math area under Mulghar Union. The deceased was identified as Md. Badal Morol (35), President of Baruipara Union Krishak Dal and son of Jafar Morol of Arpara village.

The injured, Abdullah Morol, is the President of Ward No. 1 BNP of Baruipara Union and son of Nur Islam Morol.

According to police and local sources, Badal Morol and Abdullah Morol were present in the Niyotir Math area when a group of unidentified attackers suddenly assaulted them. The assailants allegedly used sharp weapons and stabbed them repeatedly.

Badal Morol died on the spot due to severe injuries. Locals rescued Abdullah Morol and rushed him to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex. After receiving primary treatment, he was referred to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care.

Following the incident, tension spread across the locality, prompting the deployment of additional police personnel to maintain law and order.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam of Fakirhat Police Station confirmed the incident and said that the body had been recovered and an investigation was underway. Police have already launched operations to identify and arrest those involved in the attack.
