Police have recovered the body of an unidentified man from the Kuniya Bus Stand area of Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat district.

According to police sources, the body was found on Sunday morning (24 May 2026) around 10:00 AM in an open space beneath the Awami League office at Kuniya Bus Stand. Local people informed the national emergency service 999 after seeing the body lying there.

After receiving the information, Sub-Inspector Sujoy Mallik of Chitalmari Police Station, along with a police team, rushed to the scene and recovered the body. The body was later taken to the police station.

Police said the deceased appears to be a middle-aged man, but his identity has not yet been confirmed. A small injury mark was found near his right eye.

Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam said police immediately responded after receiving the information and brought the body to the station. An unnatural death case will be filed and legal procedures are currently underway.

Locals believe the man may have died during the early hours of the night, as the body had already become stiff when it was recovered. However, the exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem examination, police said.
