A
poor family in North Naluya village of Chitalmari Upazila has been left
devastated after a fire destroyed their home and savings. The victim, Md.
Lutfor Talukdar (60), earns his living by driving a van and supporting his
family through hard work.
Lutfor
Talukdar has one son and three daughters. Two of his daughters are married,
while the youngest daughter studies at a local madrasa. His van is the family's
only regular source of income.
Recently,
during Eid-ul-Adha, he sold a cow for Tk 118,000. After spending Tk 43,000 on
family needs, he kept the remaining Tk 75,000 inside a tin trunk at his home.
Unfortunately, the money was completely burned in the fire. According to the
family, the total loss from the incident is estimated between Tk 450,000 and Tk
500,000.
Local
sources said the fire started when a rechargeable light battery, which was
being charged inside the house, suddenly exploded. Within moments, the flames
spread throughout the entire house, destroying everything inside.
On
Sunday morning at around 10:00 am, Palash Rahman, a candidate for the post of
Chitalmari Upazila Vice Chairman and a well-known social worker, visited the
affected family along with his associates.
During
the visit, he provided emergency assistance including two sacks of rice, two
sarees, two lungis, 20 kilograms of potatoes, five liters of soybean oil, and
several other essential household items.
Moved
by the family's suffering, Palash Rahman expressed his sympathy and assured
them of his continued support. He said, “People should stand beside people in
times of hardship. I am with this family today and will continue to support
them in the future.”
Locals
often describe Palash Rahman as a “Messenger of Humanity” because of his
dedication to helping the poor and distressed. Residents say that whenever he
hears about someone facing difficulties—whether due to illness, fire, natural
disasters, or financial hardship—he rushes to help in whatever way he can.
Community
members believe that his humanitarian work has earned him respect and
appreciation across the area. Through his commitment to social service and
support for vulnerable people, Palash Rahman has become a familiar and trusted
figure among many local residents.
The
victim's family expressed gratitude for the assistance, saying that the support
has given them hope during one of the most difficult times of their lives.
Local
people believe that such acts of kindness and compassion can inspire others to
come forward and help families in need.
