Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson
Tarique Rahman is set to visit Sylhet today, Saturday, for the first time as
prime minister. The visit, taking place around two and a half months after the
formation of the government, has prompted extensive preparations by the
administration and party leaders and activists.
During the daylong tour, the prime
minister is scheduled to visit shrines, inaugurate development projects, launch
canal excavation work, open a sports event, and attend several meetings.
According to the schedule, he will
arrive at Osmani International Airport at 10:00 am. At around 10:30 am, he will
visit the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal and take part in prayers there.
At 11:00 am, the prime minister is
expected to inaugurate a waterlogging mitigation project of the Sylhet City
Corporation at the Chandnighat area along the Surma River. He is also scheduled
to address a civic gathering in front of the city corporation building.
At noon, he will inaugurate the
long-discussed excavation work of the Basia Canal (Basia River) in Kandigaon
area of Sadar upazila. Later, he will attend a luncheon at the Circuit House.
In the afternoon, at 3:00 pm, he
will inaugurate the “New Buds Sports-2026” event at Sylhet District Stadium. At
5:00 pm, he is scheduled to attend a party meeting at the Sylhet Shilpakala
Academy.
Finally, Tarique Rahman is expected
to return to Dhaka by air at around 7:00 pm.
Local BNP leaders said various development demands and ongoing projects related to Sylhet will be highlighted during the visit.
