To curb the spread of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Bagerhat Unit, in collaboration with the Bagerhat Municipality, carried out a joint cleanliness and mosquito control campaign across different parts of the town on Saturday.

According to the organizers, the campaign is being conducted every Saturday as part of a regular initiative to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and raise public awareness about dengue prevention.

Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Golam Mohammad Baten inspected the campaign. Also present were Md. Mahbubur Rahman Tutul, Secretary of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Bagerhat Unit; Executive Members Hadiuzzaman Hero and Md. Al-Amin Sardar; former Youth Chief Md. Naimur Rahman; current Youth Chief Rakibul Islam; Bagerhat Municipality Waste Management In-charges Mohammad Liton and Shahidul Islam; Red Crescent youth volunteers; and municipal sanitation workers.

During the operation, fogging was carried out from Shaltala to the Old Jail area. Larvicides and insecticides were sprayed to destroy mosquito larvae and adult mosquitoes, while bushes, weeds, and other potential breeding sites were cleared. Public awareness messages were also delivered, urging residents not to allow clean stagnant water to accumulate in or around their homes.

Speaking on the occasion, Md. Mahbubur Rahman Tutul said that government initiatives alone are not enough to combat dengue. He stressed that public awareness and active community participation are equally important and expressed hope that regular, coordinated campaigns would significantly help control the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.
