The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has organised a road safety workshop to raise awareness among students as part of National Safe Roads Day 2026.

The workshop was held on Tuesday at Rajuk Uttara Model College in the capital under the initiative of BRTA’s Dhaka Metro-3 Circle as part of a month-long programme.

Organised under the theme “A Prosperous Country with Safe Roads—Bangladesh First,” the workshop covered safe road crossing, the proper use of footpaths and zebra crossings, and passenger responsibilities when using public transport. It also highlighted the duties of drivers, passengers and pedestrians, as well as the importance of complying with traffic laws.

Speakers said raising awareness among drivers alone would not be enough to reduce road accidents; passengers and pedestrians must also behave responsibly. They said accidents could be reduced through safer road design and management, effective enforcement of traffic laws, and greater mutual respect among road users.

They also emphasised that building road safety knowledge, awareness and a sense of responsibility among students could help bring positive changes in accident prevention. Families, educational institutions, the administration, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders must work together to achieve this goal, they added.

Students shared their views and ideas on road safety during the workshop. The BRTA also distributed awareness leaflets and screened videos on road safety.

Those present included Rajuk Uttara Model College Principal Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Reza; BRTA Dhaka Divisional Director (Engineering) Md. Masud Alam; Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Uttara Traffic Division Md. Rubel Haque; BRTA Dhaka Metro-3 Circle Assistant Director (Engineering) Moinul Islam; Motor Vehicle Inspector Md. Hafizul Islam Khan; and BRAC Road Safety Programme Manager Md. Mainul Hossain.
