The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested a suspected wildlife smuggler and seized approximately 30 kilograms of illegally obtained venison during a special operation in the Sundarbans.

According to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Coast Guard, the operation was conducted around 2:00 PM on Monday, July 20, 2026, in the Nalian Closure Para area under Dacope Upazila of Khulna District, following a tip-off.

During the raid, Coast Guard personnel recovered about 30 kilograms of venison, with an estimated market value of Tk 66,000. A suspected meat trader, Mehedi Hasan (30), a resident of Dacope Upazila, was arrested in connection with the incident.

The seized venison and the detained suspect were later handed over to the Nalian Forest Patrol Outpost for further legal proceedings under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, confirmed the information on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. He stated that the Coast Guard remains committed to protecting the Sundarbans' biodiversity and will continue conducting intelligence-based operations to prevent wildlife hunting, trafficking, and other forest-related crimes.

The Coast Guard also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Forest Department to safeguard the world's largest mangrove forest and conserve its rich wildlife for future generations.
