Barishal Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Md. Zulfikar Ali Haider has said the police administration is working round the clock to ensure peaceful and orderly celebrations of the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja.
Law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders are working together to maintain communal harmony and goodwill during the religious festival, he said. The police remain committed to ensuring public safety and maintaining peace and harmony during religious observances, he added.
The DIG made the remarks on Tuesday evening while visiting the Sarbojanin Shri Shri Durga Puja Mandap named after the late Shri Nath Mridha in Tarabunia, Medirabad, under Vitabaria Union in Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur.
During the visit, he exchanged greetings with members of the local Hindu community and held discussions with them. He also enquired about the overall environment at the puja mandap and the law and order situation, while reviewing preparations to maintain peace and ensure the safety of visitors.
Among those present were Pirojpur Superintendent of Police Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Bhandaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Hasibul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police Partha Chakraborty of the Mathbaria-Bhandaria Circle, Pirojpur Sadar Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Nasrin Jahan, Bhandaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Jaglul Hasan, puja mandap president Ramani Mridha and general secretary Indrajit Halder, along with people from various professions in the local Hindu community.
Ramani Mridha, president of the Medirabad-Tarabunia Sarbojanin Durga Puja Mandap, said the six-day Sharadiya Durga Puja would be held from October 16 to 21, as in previous years.
He said Durga Puja had been celebrated at the mandap for more than a century in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere. Preparations for this year's celebrations have been completed with the overall support of the administration, he added.
